Gli X JAPAN sono un gruppo heavy metal originario di Chiba, Giappone, in attività dal 1982 al 1997; dopo essersi sciolto a causa di alcune divergenze, si è riformato nel 2007.

Per essere stati cronologicamente fra le prime band del genere, e per la grande influenza esercitata su quelle a seguire, gli X JAPAN sono considerati i fondatori del Visual Kei.

X Japan is a heavy metal band from Chiba in  Japan, since 1982 to 1997, after broken up for  some differences, it was reformed in 2007. 

They are considedered the first band of  this kind of music, and the great influence on other following bands, the X JAPAN are considered the founders of Visual Kei.

X JAPAN（エックス・ジャパン）は日本のロックバンド。1989年にX（エックス）としてメジャーデビュー。その後1992年に現在のX JAPANに改名。1997年解散。2007年再結成。通称はX。

1982年、千葉県館山市で当時高校生だったYOSHIKIとTOSHIを中心に結成。アメリカのヘヴィメタル/ハードロックバンド「キッス」に影響を受けた派手なルックスで日本では後に「ヴィジュアル系」と言われるロックの先駆者的存在とされ、後続のバンドに大きな影響を与えた。また、小泉純一郎元総理がファンの一人として知られている。
